Warren Alpert Medical School Collaboration

About:

QPAAM has been in contact with the Office of Medical Education (OME) at Warren Alpert Medical School (AMS) regarding the inclusion of a more comprehensive curriculum in LBGTQ Health Care for medical students. In March 2014, QPAAM met with the Office of Medical Education and proposed more LGBTQ information in the curriculum as well as more extracurricular engagement in LGBTQ health topics in extracurricular engagements. The OME staff were very supportive of QPAAM’s ideas for furthering LGBTQ Health Care education at AMS. QPAAM will be taking on a long-term improvement project with PLME and AMS including the development of a Scholarly Concentration, a Continuing Medical Education event, the continuation of the “Gender and Sexuality in Health Care: Caring for All Patients Across the Lifespan” pre-clinical elective, among other extracurricular initiatives.

LGBTQ Sexual Health Initiative and Collaboration

About:

QPAAM is in the early stages of working with a Brown University student group called, “Sexual Health Education and Empowerment, Brown University” (BRUSHE), which provides sexual health workshops to students at middle schools in Providence, RI. QPAAM plans to work with BRUSHE to ensure that the sexual health needs of LGBTQ students are being covered thoroughly in the curriculum. QPAAM has also begun planning collaboration with SHAG, Brown’s Sexual Health Awareness Group, to provide LGBT sexual health workshops for the Brown community.

LGBTQ+ Mental Health Initiative

About:

QPAAM worked with Psychological Services at Brown University during Spring 2014 to develop a survey targeted towards LGBTQ students at Brown. The purpose of the survey was to gain student insight regarding Psychological Services’ performance with LGBTQ students, whether LGBTQ students felt welcomed and supported by Psychological Services, and where Psychological Services can improve in terms of their services for LGBTQ students. QPPAM is interested in helping Psychological Services provide the best services and information for LGBTQ individuals on campus and looks forward to sharing the results of the survey in Fall 2014.
